SVM TV appearance!

In this Kent TV feature on the Faversham Hop Festival, you can clearly see members of Sompting Village Morris joining in with the festival antics. How exciting!

SVM have found a practice venue at last!

We are currently practicing at Oak Grove College at 8pm on Wednesdays.

Comments

  1. The hyperlink for the tv appearence does not work.

  2. I am seriously impressed with the act I saw on the summer solstice.

I think there should be a petition to allow Morris dancers to open up the British olympics!!

  3. Hey Eliza tis me that runs the website now... or atleast i try to. hehe. see you soon

  4. hey, i have finally looked at this website!! who runs it now? Is it harriet?

Nicepics, especially theones of the ale, i haven't seen pics of that for ages.

    looking forward to may day!!

  5. I saw your troupe in Worthig in the Summer fo 2008 I lived in worthing for 4 years, your artistic flaire for this dancing technique is one to be admired, throughout the whole land. So much so I would consider coming to watch you at your monumental occassions, even though I'm 300 miles away up in the North West. All the best to you down there, in these plastic times please keep up the tradition. The nearest morris troupe we have up here would be Saddleworth, I dont think there a patch on you people. If I ever come to live down your neck of the woods again, I think one of the first ports of call would be to come and watch you again.

  6. Good to see new pictures on the website! I guess you could always do with more so if there are any great S.V.M.photos out there , let's send them. on.

  7. After leaving to return to Ireland we emigrated to Brittany where we preserve our memories of SVM. I sang in the 'Fete de Music' the first year, so now all tyhe locals know me and I have to behave.

  8. Sompting Village will be dancing all around Worthing on Saturday 26th July commencing outside the pier at 11.00am

We will then appear at various points around the town throughout the day.

  9. It was wonderful to watch you all performing this morning for a traditional May Day.

I hope you like the film and photographs - http://www.worthingherald.co.uk/worthing/VIDEO-May-Morris-Dancing-in.4041442.jp

  10. We can offer some rubber sticks very cheap!!!!!

    Health & Safety strikes again.

Best wishes on behalf of Tæppa's Tump

  11. Hello Simon

I was just checking out the new site and saw that there are no photo's. Will there be some on here soon as i like chekcin them out every now and then?

    thank you x

  12. Thanks for adding our link, Peter. I'm planning to add our links section sometime soon; if anyone has an appropriate link they'd like included, feel free to email me/post it here.

  13. Hi Simon, I just put your new website address on the links page of our site. See you on NY day at the Cobden. Peter

  14. 1. Sorry about the Boxing Day details not being up here. I took them off, having been told that this website wasn't going to be looked at until Boxing Day itself, my bad.

    2. I'm aware that there's a problem with the Bigfoot email, but thanks for pointing it out. I'll look into that; in the meantime you can send any emails directly to s-v-m@live.co.uk - we've tested it, it works.

  15. I believe they are playing the black horse in findon but this was posted a while ago another web sight mentions a pub in Arundel so confirmation would be nice?

  16. Mike Brayshaw  2007.12.26 07:51

On the offchance that this gets looked at in the next few hours, are you performing today, Boxing Day? This website gives details from 1 January but presumably December's diary was on your old website, no longer available.

Also note that your email address given above (s-v-m@bigfoot.com) forwards to s-v-m@live.co.uk which bounces - also defunct?

(This may be a duplicate - on first attempt I wasn't offered "Subit" - only "Add a comment")

Welcome to the new 2009 website for Somting Village Morris

We are an English Morris side, formed in 1978, performing dance traditions that include Cotswold, North-West, Sussex and Border Morris. The 60-strong membership comprises a men’s team, a women’s

team and a band of versatile musicians. Our dance programme ranges

from Wednesday night stands at local Sussex pubs (ending with music and a sing-song) to appearances at national Folk Festivals, including Rochester, Shrewsbury and Nottingham, and international events in Italy, Germany, Switzerland, Holland, Belgium and France.

Our traditional celebrations include the May Day dawn procession from Worthing seafront followed by the crowning of the May Queen; the Summer Solstice dancing-down of the sun on Highdown Hill with beacon and torches; and in the autumn the Battle of the Conkers. At Christmas & New Year, we enact the ancient, local Tipteerers’ or Mummers’ Play. For the Wassail on January 5th, join us with your drums and whistles for our torchlit procession.

Sompting can be booked for corporate displays and fetes. For Medieval Banquets, Dickensian Feasts and other themed events, the company of Sompting Banqueteers perform colourful entertainments with music, dance and general mayhem.

We welcome new members, both dancers and musicians. If you are interested in joining the side or booking an event please contact the ‘Bag’.
